Default Best replacement tires for the$$

Hello everyone.I just got a 87 heritage softail on Saturday afternoon.Rode it home about 100 miles.Didnt notice untill I got home that the tires are soooo dry cracked that they look like they may split open just sitting still.I guess I should have checked the tires before rolling up hwy 5 at 80 mph.Not the smartest thing I have done in awhile.Anyway,It has metz.880 on it right now 130/90/16 front and rear. What is the best tire at a good price that wont brake the bank?also can I go any wider on the rear tire without changing anything else out?Whats do you all recommend. Thanks

I would stay with the Metzlers... I had them on my Dyna and felt comfortable with them... Now I have the stock Dunlops that came on my Fatboy, and when its time to change them, I will be using Metzlers again.

A few people have told me go with the bridgestone spitfire, and others have said metzler and the dunlop d404.I was going to go with the d404,but have read they have alot of road noise.Just trying to see what others think before jumping into something and being unhappy. Thanks for the replies. All are welcome.

Been running the ME 880's since May and I am very happy with their handling and performance on wet roads. Did not care for the OEM Dunlops.

I am on my 3rd rear and 2nd front of Stock lops,, 10.5k on rear 1st two. 21 on front, and still had more. but time to change with rear...

Dennis Kirk mail order and local Indy installed.. saved over $180 VS dealer installed..
The lops Elite 3 are really doing good, reports of 15-20 k on them,, about 30-40% more $$ so U'll have to way them out...

I dont plan on doing a lot of wet weather riding, but dont want a tire that is slicker than snot in the rain.I do a lot of country back roads. So something that is good in the corners, but not so soft that it wears out in 4-5k

Tires are not something I'd skimp on.

Good tires (Metzler 880s, Dunlop D404s, etc.) don't really cost that much more.
