Default Road Ruts

I always use caution when crossing over RR tracks, but I'm interested on some of your opinions on separations in the road when a new lane has been added and time has made the crack larger. No matter if your jus' toolin' down the road or making a lane change and there it is, how did you handle it? The pic is an extreme case, but you get the idea.

Holy ****! Earthquake cause that? Oklahoma has some of the worse roads in the world, but nothing that looks like that!!

Prayer is the only thing I can think of doing when confronted with something like that unexpectedly.

With all the road construction going on, we will be seeing lots of situations where one lane has had the surface scraped off and there is about an inch to 2 inches difference in the level between the lanes. When I am in one of these areas, I try to avoid lane changes, but if I must change lanes (for example from right lane to left), I move as far right as possible and then cross into the other lane at a sharp angle rather than simply trying to slide over.

I ride along side them and avoid crossing them if possible. If I have to cross them I do a quick swerve from the far side of one lane to teh far side of the other. Same for uneven road surfaces like when one lane is freshly paved and the other isn't.

+1 It's about all you can do. That and maybe pray. Saw a chain reaction accident last year due to a freshly paved road. One bike went down and took a couple more with it. No notice that the pavement was uneven. I found out whenthe leos directed us to the other lane. They had signs out the next day though. CYA?
