So we're at the dealership this weekend looking for my wife a bike, and I make a comment "kinda jokingly" that I should trade in my 08 RKC for a 2010 Road Glide Custom at the same time we get her a bike. She's looking at the 2010 softail deluxe. The salesman looks at me and tells me "if you are serious about doing that our owner would give you an amazing deal". Which I'm sure he would to sell 2 new bikes, but I don't really know how amazing he's talking. I never really acknowledged his comment or said too much else about trading in my RKC, I just dropped the subject before I left with 2 new bikes and a sore rear end from his "amazing deal".
I'd like to hear some of ya'lls opinions on what kind of "deal" I should ask for if I get serious about trying to make a deal on 2 bikes. And yes I know the Road Glides are ugly, you still wont talk me out of it...!!! LOL
First, why would you want to trade a RKC for a road glide but I would've at least asked what he would have given you. I am willing to bet that you would take it in the shorts on a trade. Dealers are in the business to make money
If my wife had her own bike, I'd be back on a softail tomorrow. You're gonna do, what you're gonna do. Lately, it's like a disease. Seems I see a lot of people, on here, trading/selling their barely used bikes for the latest and the greatest. I can't imagine any dealers making "smoking" deals to anyone with a trade. Unless he has a buyer for your bike, which if I was looking used I can find em all day around here. And certainly cheaper than any dealer asks for used.
I've never seen such a glut of used bikes for sale, as right now. Good for non-owners, bad for people trying to sell. Wish I had the extra money, there are a few bikes I've been eyeballing on the local CL. Even tried to talk the wife into getting her own. She's content as a passenger, and with all the cell phone using a-holes and crappy drivers, I'm happier with it as well.
Who are we to talk you out of keeping the economy limping along, you only live once!
Other than the fact your 08 still has some life left on the factory warrantee, and that makes it easier to sell your 08. He can allow more in trade. Any more than that I can't see a great deal in your future. That's what my magic 8 ball said.
Let 'em bring the offer to you. They brought it up. If it is a truly amazing deal then go for it. If not counter-offer and see what happens. It is a game that you gotta play unless you have a rock solid number in mind.

Its kind of hard to even speculate about their amazing deal without knowing where you are on your RKC. Is it still financed, etc. If you still owe a bunch on it and make the trade, I kind of have to believe the amazing deal is more amazing for them than it would be for you.....Maybe you should just ger her the Deluxe and call it a day....you could even dress it up to look ALOT like your RK.....J&P cycles has some front fender emblems that say "Road Queen" on them....
Do your own numbers. Decide how much a new bike is worth to you, how much your bike is worth, realistically, & *Know* how much more you're willing to spend to be on a new bike. Don't get wrapped up in "shipping, set-up, etc." deals, just look at the bottom line. If he meets or exceeds your idea of a deal then you're both happy. If he doesn't at least meet your goal, pass. You've got a bike you're happy with now.
