Down here in the heat (105+) you will see several folks with their bandannas across their face to block sun, sand, bugs, pebbles, etc. My wife picked up for me a thin, light, comfortable 1/2 balaclava which does not shield off the impacts quite as well as a bandanna, but is more breathable....
Arrggg Mate, shiver me timbers, once around the cape and you'll be a sea fareing man for sure..Back to the bandana, don't wear one for my face, I have a full face helmet, works for me, but i do wear one around my neck, makes it real easy to pull in, pull it up, go rob the gas station of 4 gal. of gas and ride off. na, not that either, I do wear one around my neck to keep my neck warm or cool depending on what time of year it is..as for protection from rocks and such I would have to say go with a windshield..[sm=biker.gif]
use one to cover my bald head ( skin is in) works great in the rain to protect the face , my mother-in law bought me about a dozen of them when i started riding again , when she gave them to me she was afraid they weren't my size , got to love her [sm=love.gif]
i have a 'mask' that i bought that velcro's on the back of your head... its made by Shampa. this one is made for cold-weather riding and has a cut out for your nostrils and mesh where your mouth is.
other than that- ive only worn a bandanna over my face on one ride... that was coming home to Philly from Laconia. we were rolling at about 80mph, the sun was right in front of us and my face about had it from the ride up, during, sun... it hurt.
i actually see quite a few people here in the So Cal area doin it. What surprised me was the first time i saw them doing it in the summer, i thought they were crazy.
After a 200 mile ride a few weeks ago in 95deg + weather and getting hit by everything possible, i understood why they were doing it!!!
I did pick up the windshiled tho. May try the bandana for those times the windshield is just not "right"!

I carry a bandana in my rear pocket...I wear it over my face when I'm running in the rain. I can't tell you how many times it has saved my face from the NAILS of rain. Other than that, stereos, windshields, and trailers are for boats. [8D]
