Default Cam chain tensioner replacement

I have just gone over 40,000 miles on my RKC. It has aftermarket cams - chain driven. I'm trying to decide if I should just replace the original tensioner pads or go with gear driven cams and be done with the tensioners alltogether.
This is not my area of expertise, so all advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.

Go with the gears you may spend a little more in doing that but you will not have to worry about it again.

The hubby did it on his 2005 Dyna Wide Glide and we are very happy not to have to spend money again for this repair.

This has been a topic here many times and many ways. I went gears a long time back. I don't regret it and I don't worry about it anymore. I never liked timing belts or chains in anything I own. Too many years----too many repairs. At least with gears when it is worn out ---it is time for a rebuild.

+1.......went to S&S 510 gear drive cams at 35k and don't worry about it anymore. Now have 82k on the bike.

I think the type of upgrade you should consider should depend on the miles you put on a year...gears are considerably more expensive then hydraulic tensions but certainly last longer but if you only put on a few k a year is it worth the extra coin to go gears.

Call the dealer and get prices and see what work for you

It just seems like in this day and age, we could do a little better. I've not been into HD for long, having recently purchased a 2002 Deuce, which I really enjoy, but every time HD updates a motor it seems there are issues with the design. Not always major ones mind you but they are there nevertheless. I try to buy American (yes I know nothing is totally U.S. made) but it sure seems like the Asian stuff has less issues (notice I said less, as they are not perfect either.) I just hope my Deuce gives me good service because I like the HD experience and would like to stay with them. I guess I'll take a peek at them at around 20,000 and hope for the best! Cutting the filters sounds like a good idea to get some indications. At least they are a nice orange color.
