Default Is it a Secret... or just that nobody knows?

When I ask I'm hearing yes and no in equal numbers and confess I don't know enough myself (yet) to make the right decision. QUESTION: My '09 Heritage already had a dealer-installed Screaming Eagle Stage One Performance package when I bought it; I definitely am going to change out the SE slip-ons with something like V&H Big Shot Longs or similar, SO... will my bike need ANOTHER download to the EFI system and/or Additional Tuning with the new exhaust system? If you know please share your answer. p.s. I don't expect to ever upgrade this bike to a Stage 2 in case that makes any difference.
Thanks,
GymChamp

If you want your bike to be absolutely optimized then you could do another tune. Do you absolutely need one? I'd say no. You may get a little decel pop or something, but I wouldn't think changing out pipes with your EFI already tuned for high-flow pipes of another brand would make that big a difference.

Make sure you keep those SE slipon's, they may have the CAT's in the muffler. They could be worth in the area of 400.00. The answer to your question is probably not, the flow between the two exhaust systems is more than likely about the same so unless you get popping as stated above, I wouldn't waste my money on a re-cert.

Run the pipes for awhile. Listen to your engine for pinging or loud deceleration popping. Smell your bike. Check your plugs and look at the color. Use your sense of smell. Lean bikes smell lean--rich bikes smell rich. I wouldn't recommend huffing the exhaust.

Hey Juve996, thanks to you and all for the advice, but tell me how you like your Double Barrell Longs and how do you think they compare to Longshots (which won't fit your or my Heritage without drilling and welding) and to Big Shot Longs??? I'm trying to choose between those models for combination deep rumble with loudest volume.
Thanks again,
GymChamp

Well, it took a leap of faith on the DB Longs as I really didn't know what to expect. Mainly due to the fact that I really never heard these pipes before.

I have to tell you I love these pipes. They are everything I expected and more.
What attracted me to them was the slash down cut, it really goes well with the look of the Heritage. Having said that, the only modification I've made to the pipes (and a great mod it was), is that I installed the louder baffle from V&H. They do not advertise this baffle for the DB Longs but it does fit. The sound difference is night and day. What was an acceptable sound with the stock baffles, has moved these pipes into the awesome catagory. They are deep, they have that V&H snap and crack real nice when you get on it. For me, the look was what I wanted and together with the open baffle, now it really sounds like a Harley. One thing about the DB Longs is the larger Power Chamber. It gives them a deeper sound and rumble.

Bottom line, if you're going with the DB Longs, change the baffle. You can call V&H directly and they'll get you in touch with one of their retail stores and they will ship directly to you. If you need more info on the pipes or baffles call them directly, they sure helped me.
