York plant
Harley-Davidson and the Union representing employees at the Company’s operations in York, Pa. – IAM Local Lodge 175 – have concluded negotiations on a new proposed seven-year collective bargaining agreement. Today the Union held a membership meeting to review the proposed agreement, which is part of a restructuring plan designed to enable York to be competitive and sustainable long term.
The proposed agreement provides a competitive wage and benefits package that is among the best in the area while at the same time meeting the Company’s need for significantly greater cost-competitiveness, flexibility and efficiency.
A restructured York operation would be leaner and focused on assembly, metal fabrication and paint, with an hourly unionized workforce expected to be about 1,000 employees, consisting of 700 to 800 full-time employees as well as 200 to 300 “casual” employees who work on an as-needed basis. The introduction of casual employees, along with other provisions of the proposed agreement, would greatly enhance the Company’s ability to plan and staff flexibly for production seasonality, volume adjustments and daily operational needs.
The Union has scheduled a December 2 vote on the proposed agreement. The Company expects to make a final decision after the Union votes in December.
