My heritage gets about 42mpg. I can ride alone and do 80 and it gets about 42mpg. I can load it up for a trip, put my wife on board, do 80 and it still gets about 40mpg. If I drop my speed to 65 or 70 it gets about 42 mpg. I don't know if it's the 6speed tranny or what but I can't get it over 42 mpg unless I'm going downhill and it won't go below 40 even at 80mph.
Thats pretty close to the same as I got before the cams...
Now with the 26H's its bout 43-44-45, 1up and ride between 55-65, Sixth does do a lot better at 60> than stock cams...used to get 38-40 and now 44-46
never rode very long at 70+ so cant say..
Thanks for all the great feedback. Seems from the above posts that improving MPG might be accomplished by making the bike more aerodynamic, adding more power, and a 6 speed overdrive transmission. I am seriously considering adding a Memphis Shades bat wing fairing for next year and then cams/ head work. The 6 speed trans is very expensive just to lower RPMs by about 500 so I'm thinking that's out of the question. I think the fairing and mods will go a long way to improving highway comfort and power.
