If your looking for a right right side shifting sportster, it will have to be a 1971 or older. HD went to the left side shifting in 1972 sportster. I had a 1970, and it was my understanding the reason for the right side shifting, was for flat track racing, they always run counterclockwise so shifting would be difficult on left side.

I had a 1973 Sportster and it was right side shift. The left side shift came into existence with the 1975 model year, as mandate by DOT.
