I'm damn'd sory you cant get the scoot you want right now. I shopped for going on two years before I found the ride I have now. I thought I'd never find the one at the right price. I just so happened to fill both categories just about six months ago now. Many moons of unhappiness and impatient waiting have turned into riding bliss for me.
About friggin time! Lol
Damn. I thought 6% in MD was bad. I believe CA has a high one as well. I think it's actually the income taxes in Canada that are outrageously high to cover the health care though.
The other day I figured out the tax difference between living here in Alberta or in California.
I pay less than $100/month more in taxes than I would in California on a $130k income.
And we only pay 7% sales tax in Alberta as that is a federal tax and we have no provincial sales tax.
Welcome to Canada. Trev Deeley holds the Canadian franchise for Harley Davidson and adds on average about 10% to the cost of new bikes. So, here's how your Wide Glide works out: U$14,499 vs C$17,299. So, converting U$14,500 @ 1.06 = $15,370 or about a 12% premium - about in the ball park. You have to pay the sales tax whether you buy it in Canada or in the US.
If you are on a limited income, sounds like you should pursue a used bike. Look around in the US (Craigslist & Ebay) can offer some good deals but you have to be patient.
Good luck
There are ways around Deeley. Some "dealers" are able to import them from HD without having to use Deeley as they are "customizers" and do not sell "stock" bike even though they may come with a full factory warranty.
It's not just bikes but parts too.
We are paying an extra 20-35% more for parts and accessories. The Bank of Canada says the Canadian dollar has averaged 91 cents against the US dollar over the last three years and it sure as hell doesn't cost that much more to ship parts up here. I'm sure Deeley has heard all this before, but I doubt anything can be done about it.

True, but the funny thing is, I was looking for some parts at a local indy, and they were able to sell me HD parts cheaper than the dealer.
Actually, the federal GST is down to 5%. Been like that for a year or two now.
And now our provincial government is hiking our provincial taxe to 9.5% to pick up those 2 taxe percentages for themselves. Bastards.
Yup you are correct, just habit to say 7. Thank god I use my computer to automatically figure it out on my invoices or I probably would have been collecting 5 and sending them 7 lol
Ya, funny how they can always find more ways to get money from us.
This reminds me of what I saw happening back in the late 80's, and 90's. HD cut production, prices went thru the roof, and people were buying the bikes only to turn them around and sell at outrages prices.
Cool, hope so.
