Try it on and get what fits. I think they are made to fit over a jacket so an XL may be somewhat larger than an XL jacket. My Harley Overpass rain jacket size Large fits perfectly over my Vanson size 52 leather Mark 2 Cobra jacket.

I have a XL jacket and my rain gear is size Large. It fits a little snug over my jacket but it is also doesn't feel 3 sizes to big in the summer with just a T-shirt on.

Best bet, try it on first. Better safe than sorry.

Well, it is designed to be worn over a jacket. So a L is intended to be worn over a L jacket.

That said, mine is an L, and I find the jacket to be big, even over my bulky textile jacket, though I find the pants to be short. Yes, I tried it on. An M was too small, and an XL was voluminous.

Still, I like it. It really works, even at highway speed for a 3+ hours.

Don't forget gaitors and gloves.

I wear an XL in the perforated HD leather jacket and have a XXL in the FXRG leather jacket. A little large on the FXRG, but it still works. I had an XL HD rainsuit that worked very well for me. It was shredded when I laid the bike down the first part of October, and when I bought a replacement I bought a XXL thinking that was what I had before. Way too big, and I am not a little person. 6'3" 225#'s. Probably should have tried it on, and the best bet in my mind is the same for you.

I wear a "large" jacket, my "large" High-Viz jacket fits over it fine.
