Yes, folks, not only has Calgary been confirmed as the most redneck city in the nation, we are three times worse than any other Canadian city when it comes to hate crime. Three times!
This, according to a report Monday from Statistics Canada, which used police reporting statistics to determine that Calgary had 9.1 hate-crime incidents per 100,000 population, compared to a national average of 3.1 per 100,000.

2k3p, that is a very interesting stat. I hadn't heard it before. I live in Calgary, born and raised. The only comment I have about that stat is about stats in general. You can interpret them in many ways.

Consider this, you wouldn't have hate crimes unless there were identifiable groups to be the haters and do the hating. For example if it was a homogenious society all one race, creed, color, religon then it would be impossible to have a hate crime. Agreed? I think Calgary has the highest rate because we are probably made up of the largest variety of identifiable groups. For example, riding the train to work, you have about 25% of the people caucasian the rest are from other nations. So probably a lot of crimes are labeled hate crimes when in fact they are crimes of the normal variety but happen to be against a minority by coincidence.

On another topic but related. A lot of the crime in the city is from the asian gangs. They travel in packs and randomly beat the crap or kill innocent pedestrians. They're responsible for b&e's, drug trafficing, turf wars, drive by shootings. The cops have a task force to deal with the punk gangs. Those punks are far more of a problem than the red necks will ever be.
