over here in ny, ALL you see in the summer is these asshats zipping in and out of lanes buzzing like some menopausal woman's vibrator.
to each his own, i just don't condone driving/riding like an idiot no matter what you're on/in.
the gym i work at, i'd have to say its about 50/50 harleys and sport bikes parked outside.
i'm guessing it's when you ride. a lot of harley guys will get up early and get a nice ride in and be in by the early afternoon. jap bike riders are generally younger and will be on the road in the afternoon/evening and at night.
again, that's a complete generalization but might have something to do with it.
Human trait, you notice cars/bikes that are the same as what you drive/ride.
I saw MAYBE.... ONE Road Glide, for every 200 harley's before I bought one. NOW.... I see 'em everywhere.... yeah, we're still not "common" but just not as rare.
Seems like I see as many of the other brands, as before. Ducati, Honda, Kawasaki, Victory, Suzuki etc..... just depends I suppose.
I don't pay much attention to the number of Harley's vs Metrics out there on the road, but I do know that more and more of the 'garage queen' bikes are being put into use instead of just sitting.
Guys I know that have wanted Harley's for years are finally getting one, just because it's such a buyers market out there, and prices continue to fall.
The poor economy is helping a lot of guys to pick up like new condition Harley's at a reasonable price.
It's mainly because Honda, Kaw, and Suzuki killed the standards they used to make. For the most part, you only have the choice of a crotch rocket, a Harley/Victory looking cruiser, or a touring bike.
There's really no such thing as the naked standard anymore. For those of you younger riders in here, at one time there were Jap models you could buy and turn into anything you wanted...a cafe racer, tourer, etc.
Why that market was abandoned doesn't really make much sense to me.
It's mainly because Honda, Kaw, and Suzuki killed the standards they used to make.
The Suzuki GSXF appears to be a somewhat standard version of the GSXR. The pegs are more forward and the seat is nearly flat, making it much better to throw a passenger on.
Around here (Fort Hood) there are as many of one brand as another. A lot of sport bikes with all of the soldier boys, and girls. ............All of the brands are WELL represented!
I would say 1997 to 2007 around me all you saw was jap bikes, honda shadows, road stars,v stars u name it. When I got on the highway all I ever saw was jap bikes till now......Is it me or does it seem like they came and went? around me all I see is sportsters and other harleys. I dont even see many sport bikes around like I did years back .....I asked a few guys I ride with and they said I was very right so is this just in my area?
You mean metrics? out of respect for a few asian friends i have, i dont use the term jap bike. don't know where you ride but the metrics are plentiful here.

Tons of bikes parked in front of the bar where I work (well, not right now). 90% harleys and an absolutely GORGEOUS stock 54 Indian big chief. The bro who owns it let me sit on it, and I fell in love. Ol school baby!
What I don't see often are Guzzis and Ducatis here. Japanese cruisers and crotch rockets sometimes, and almost never a nice vintage brit (like triumph or so). Seldom a BMW. Harleys rule here.
