Thumbs up Hdfsi

Well about 5 months ago I pcs'd to Germany, for those not in the military just means I moved duty stations. Anyway upon getting my orders maybe 6 months ago I called harley wanting to do right and getting permission to bring the bike over with me. Well I talked to some dick bag that told me I was SOL. Anyway talked to a couple more people at that time and all had the same answer the bike would either have to be sold or left in the US. Well the bikes been sitting for 5 months, and I can no longer ship it for free but finally talked to someone at HDFSI that said yes. I was totally shocked, guess they arent so bad after all.

Little side note to anyone who is in the military or anyone who plans on moving out of the country HDFSI requires atleast 18mo's of paid payments or there auth. to take the bike out of country. Dealers 9 times outta 10 dont know this.

Seems like I read something about it being more dificult to repo a vehicle from military personel who were on deployment also. I think that article even mentioned foreclosures, but I forget the details.

Sux to try doin the right thing, only to have to speak to people who either don't know proper procedure or are just willing to do what they THINK is in their best interest...

BTW, thank you for your service!

The Soldiers & Sailors Relief Act covers those sort of things.

yeah, but how much is it gonna cost you now to ship your bike over? thats gotta be a healthy chunk of change.

maybe you could get with the transportation office and request an exception to policy based on the fact that they screwed you around so much?

I PCS'd from Mississippi to Virginia in the late 80's. I did a DIY move, which may have some different rules. They paid just based on weight, and I had a max weight allowance.

My ex & kids stayed in Mississippi. A year later, my ex wanted to move to Virginia. Because I had not used my full weight allowance, I was able to move them (the kids were my dependents, even if my ex wasn't), on the same orders, up to the amount of my weight allowance not used.

I'm sure yours is not a DIY move.

Another thing we sometimes did was to take POV's onto the ship and drop them off somewhere (Gitmo was common for us) - but I can't imagine who would arrange that.

Good advice to get with your Trans folks. Waivers are possible, and since the delay doesn't cause additional expense to the military, they may not give much static about it. How long is your tour? I'm thinking you would probably need 24-36 mos time on station remaining to justify the shipment. Worth a shot anyway. The Trans folks are people first - I know because I was one for 20 years.

Yeah I called the trans people here today. Actually went better then I expected. They gave me a memo so I could ship the bike as a normal POV. Thinking I may have the local dealer in NC pick the bike up and prep it for shipping then crate it up and ship it that way, thinking its probably the best way to do it.

you were better than I would have been. I would have taken it with me and not said a word to HD. How would they find out?
