Default changing pipes

I have a 2008 Heritage Softtail Classic. Bought Rush slip ons this weekend. Thought this would be simple. Told to put on pipes, and ride. Just add new air filter. Is there an easy way to get stock pipes loose from header pipe?

Just pulled my slip ons off and replaced with Rineharts. B**ch getting the left one off. First, loosen the clamp and slide it all the way up so that it's not on the old slip on. You can try spraying some WD 40 where it slides onto the exhaust. I could not initially twist mine, so had to rock it up-down and sideways. I had a friend hold the exhaust as best he could to minimize the leverage on the exhaust and prevent cracking it. Even tried a rubber hammer to try to force it back. The rocking eventually loosened it and then was able to twist and pull. Fortunately, the right one came off a lot easier.

Oh, one other thing. I reused the stock clamp. They are ususally wider than the ones they supply with the new slip ons. The instructions suggested putting a high temp silcon on the inside of the new slip on, but my HD dealer said they never do this... always put them on dry and clamp tightly.

Penatrating oil will help loosen. longer they been on seems like the harder to get off.

On Ur clamps they recommend new ones, just make sure they cover the slots in the pipes where the mufflers go on the header pipes or U can get air leaks,, which will give U decell popping... some even use Hi-temp cooper sealer will putting slip-ons, on.. maybe a good idea if reusing the old clamps. And let it cure if used.

Don''t think Rush comes with new clamps,, at least 3yrs ago they didn't, maybe now they do???

New clamps stretch a little when installed and tightened..But still lots of guys reuse the old one. Ur choice... Used to be bout $14.00 per, don't know how much $$$ now...
