I have a little issue. I have an 06 Heritage, and I absolutely love going on realllllllyyy long rides to nowhere in particular. The seat that I have on my bike is not stock, but it is a little uncomfortable for my wife after a while. To be completely honest, my seat could be a little more comfortable as well. I could put a back rest on for me and be satisfied. I want to know what kind of seat I can get that she will be comfortable on without having to stop every 100 to 200 miles, and not have to trade in for a bigger touring model. There is no way in hell I am giving up my Heritage! I dont really care what it looks like, I just wanna go! So iffn any of ya gals could give me some suggestions, it would be tremendously appreciated! Something that is easily removed to put my solo seat on of course!
Guys, now dont go postin pics of bikes with a recliner strapped to the back! I am serious here!
From: Dallas, TX & Santa Fe, NM when I can find the time....
As a rider and not a passenger, but as a woman...maybe I can help.
The wider passenger seats seem to be more comfy, from what I hear/read, because it'll be more supportive. We women have wider sitz bones (ischial tuberosity) than you fellas, and sitting on a seat no wider than the rear fender is no bueno for any length of time..
As far as HD seats, not sure if the HD Sundowner works with the Heritage, but I hear nothing but good about these from everyone.
I'm guessing you'll get a lot of votes for Mustang. They seem to get the nod around here pretty consistently. I run a Mustang solo w/ backrest (heaven) and have a passenger pillon because I do occasionally have a passenger. Mainly though, I use it to sit my luggage on when touring. If you go that route, get the wider pillon - they sell them in various widths. I'm thinking the 14" is the trick. I really like their backrest...it conforms well to my back and isn't huge. They do have a 2-up seat.
You might also look at Ultimate Seats. A friend bought one for her 03 Fatboy before we rode to Sturgis and LOVES it. They sell a 2 up and solo with pillon if I'm not mistaken. I never hear much about them, but when I have, it's always been positive. They're out of Canada.
Some people will recommend Corbin. My opinion is they're a love/hate thing and you may not want to risk it. They are firm, but the word is, firm is what is most supportive, thus less likely to cause a sore butt. I have a Corbin on my Deluxe and just got in the backrest. Don't like the backrest as much as my Mustang, but for the type of riding I'll do on that bike, it'll be okay. I also prefer my Mustang over the Corbin comfort-wise.
Of course, there is always the Mean City Cycles route. They'll rework your stocker & make it work for both of you. Again, I'm sure the many satisfied customers around here will chime in. I've heard nothing but good about them.
What seems to have made the biggest difference to my butt comfort is the Mustang seat...a close second would be adding highway pegs and changing my position frequently. I've noticed when I don't use the highway pegs much, my butt doesn't last as long. Not sure what can be done for your wife that'll help her in that respect, but maybe others will have ideas.
My wife really appreciates the better feel of the touring style seat that harley offers for the heritage. But she likes the backrest I made even more. It's thicker at the top by about an inch and a half. It pushes her into a more upright position that really improved her comfort level.

I know you asked for the ladies opinion, but I thought I might chime in.
If you're anywhere near Maiden, NC, (call, and then) go see Allen over at Mean City Cycles. (They are a sponser here, so it's ok if I talk 'em up).
It sounds like you're pretty happy with your part of your seat, let them fix up her seat. Save you a lot of money, too. They do outstanding work. I'm a two-time customer, because (about a year ago) I wanted a comfortable seat and wanted to be moved back a few inches with the mid-controls that came on my bike. When I put forwards on over the holidays, I had to go back and get them to move me forward a couple of inches (about a month ago). I don't think they could have done a better job on it. Great people to work with and they do top quality work.
My answer many years ago to tthe uncomfy seat was simply to get and ride my own bike. Now I always get a corbin seat and can do 500 mile days with ease.
As far as my wife is concerned, there is no reason to go 100 to 200 miles without stopping, I don't care what kind of seat or padding you're talking about. My wife is a great riding partner but if it was just about putting on miles on a ride she would stay home.

I was wondering about this one for my wife. But we just got our first Harley earlier this month, and have yet to take a long trip since I've been out of town since then (I work offshore). Hopefully we can check out her comfort level when I get home in mid February and revisit this post for more recomendations.
Similar problem for my wife but we have decided it may be passenger floor board issue on the Road King. Thinking of trying adjustable passenger pegs so she can change leg/foot position. Have Corbin seat on Road King and Mustang seat w/ passenger pillion on Dyna. She says Dyna is more comfortable.
Having said all that, if I told her we were going for a ride and not to plan on stopping until after 100-200 miles because she has new seat/adjustable foot pegs, well I would go by myself.
