I just thought it was funny the way so many jokes about it were added to the thread.

Actually pretty cool that so many references to the heritage were posted.

Harley riders sure to compain a lot. We complained about the V-Rod when it was new and continue to complain about every new version to it's platform. We complained about the Rocker. And now the complaints are out for the 48. The Moco is dammed if they do and dammed if they don't when it comes to introducting new models. I'm looking forward to seeing these new fangled 48's when they hit the road.

I think they calculate that into the capacity. My wife can put 5.1 into her 5 gallon FI tank with a pump. Of course I'm gonna hear "you better never run me out of gas again" the rest of my life.

Default 2.2 Gallons

The 2.2 gallon tank is very cool. The larger tank on Nightsters and newer Sportsters mimics the look, and is more practical, but just does not sit right. The other bigger tanks on some 1200 Sportsters, to my eye, don't cut it either, from an aesthetic viewpoint.

The 2.2 was the Sporsters calling card for a couple of decades. It was a definitive styling cue. The bigger tank, to me, looked kind of dopey. Not right. And with close to 50mpg, stopping for gas every 80-100 miles was not an inconvenience...but a welcome relief.

Sportsters were not meant to be cross-country tourers, although you could do it. They were meant to be T & T bikes (racers and tavern-to tavern) machines. I, for one, am glad that the Sporster is coming back around.

Duh! I just figured it out - since it's geared towards new riders, it's the number of pounds the rider is overweight!
