When i was looking at trading my 2 Vulcans in for 2 new harleys, i went to a dealership and got similar treatment. I had done all the research on my bikes and trade in values, retail values, even got a couple of quotes from differant dealers. Well i go into this shop and the guy said I hate metrics, i will give you 4000 for it. The trade in value was 8,900, retail value of 11,200. A couple weeks later i went to another dealership, met a friend who worked there, she pointed me to the best salesman, and me and my wife rode home on 2, 2010 dynas before the day was over. It all depends on the dealer. And yeah, im a young tattooed guy, so im sure he thought i was just a dreamer.....I might just take a ride over to that dealership on my W.G. in a couple weeks.........
doesnt the guy realise there is an economic crisis going down??arent dealers supposed to negotiate with cash buyers?strange,he needs to pull his head in!!
I was at a dealership today looking at a 2003 super glide that had 25,000 miles on it that was priced at 7450. They also had another 2006 super glide custom with 9,000 miles selling for 8800 or something. The 2003 that i was looking at had one upgrade and it was the screamin eagle slip ons.
Im a college student so im trying to get the best bang for the buck on a harley and dont want to get into too much debt and like i always heard from everyone is that when negotiating "you could always go up but you can never go down" so i told him i would like to try to have it for 6500 as a starting point which he became extremely disgusted with me telling me 7450 is the lowest he can go and giving me this whole speal so i said ok do you think we can do 6800 and ill buy it today or im walking. He said theres the door and i tried to shake his hand and he wouldnt shake my hand or even look at me.
Was i being that ridiculous and out of line with the price? If so is 7450 a good price im not going back i just want to know if my mind is in the right place?
Thanks guys
Edit- oh and the reason i mentioned the second bike was because i told him for a 1000 more i could get a fuel injected 3 years younger less mileage bike? I dont know maybe its just me i thought the 2003 was over priced
You should'nt have offered your hand. Could of got swine flu from the jerk anyway.
salesman is a douche! Had he had any clue about what he was doing, he would have negotiated, at the very least. I figure, with your offer, he could have countered with 7k even, and a deal would have been made. Sellers and buyers don't walk on major purchases over a "measly" $200. I would definately hook up with another salesman and try this again, then stick in that guys face.

Whether you get a bike soon or not, send a picture of one and tell them that you purchased one elsewhere. Then let them know how much you just spent on parts and labor for some pretty new pipes and a bunch of chrome. Then thank them because they stopped you from jumping onto the first bike you found.
I would say that he did you a favor but you never know. The sales guys at the local dealer suck but the parts and service guys are cool as hell. I was basically forced to go there because they were the only shop that was open late enough for me to get the part that I needed on a Saturday night. I reluctantly walked passed the sales people to the parts desk and was pleasantly surprised. The parts guys answered all sorts of dumb questions from me and even stayed a few minutes after closing to make sure that I had what I needed.
