Default Having a problem

Hey I need some help. My dad gave me an 89 flt, ultra classic electraglide. I am putting everything back together. I just had the carberator rebuilt, new plugs, new fuel lines, and when i go to start it, it back fires and there is no compression to the rear cylinder. I am not sure what went wrong.... any suggestions?

Sounds like the valve is stuck open. Maybe a broken valve spring. The piston rings could be broken but I would bet on the valve train not working. You may need to pull the head.

We are going in now and checking for a valve stuck open. The bike runs great on the front cylinder only. The bike has been apart for a few years. Now that I have it I am trying to get it going. According to my Dad, i was running fine before he took apart to put new exhaust on it and new rods.

I agree. Either a valve stuck open or a pushrod that need adjustment.

It does sound like a valve is sticking open, especially if the compression comes back. Can't imagine why backfiring would make it happen.
