Just don't do it after hoisting a few beers. You may find a cop that isn't up on the rules and could get yourself into trouble over performing a perfectly legal act.
I was hoisting a few cold ones with the natives the other day when someone told me that if you're at a red light that doesn't change after a while that you, if the traffic allows, can cross or turn left. I've done that a few times, but I've always watched my mirror for flashing light until I got out of town.
Is he right?
I live in Wausau and I know that in October of 2007 or 2008 (can't remember the year off-hand), Wisconsin passed a law allowing motorcycles to proceed through red light if traffic conditions allow and provided they wait a required 45 seconds. I'm shooting this off the cuff but I'll try to find a link to the law.
So, yes your buddy is right I just can't confirm the exact details (i.e., wait time).
I have a 40lb magnet on the bottom of my motor mount, just pull up to the sensor loop so you are over one of the sides of it, and not in the "eye" of it. tricks the sensor into thinking there is a larger vehicle there. Works great! I used to have the same problem at the same light until I spent the $15 bucks.

In some cities in Florida it's legal and others it's not. So it is not just a state law. Also don't try it in a cage. It's for motorcycles and bikes that don't have enough mass to trigger the sensors.
Here's the pisser....you have been waiting for over a cycle and the light won't change...it's all clear so you decide to go through like the law states...just as you are entering the intersection, a cop pulls in view and from a distance sees you "running" a red light.
But officer, I did wait for over a cycle..... TICKET!!
