Hmmm, say I had no garage.... yeah I could see myself parking the bike in the living room...I would have to open up the house first before starting it up though.... anyone remember the cheech and chong movie where chong bike sat in the living room, he was running the exhaust through a tube, out the window and straight at his neighbors rose bushes.... Cheech and Chongs 'next movie" I believe was the title...
Never did that, but back in the 60's renting a house in Conn.rebuilt a 74" in a pantry. The landlord was ballistic over that because of the smell.I did make it all right, just because they were such good people.
Back in 1976 the wife and I bought out first home, didn't have a garage. Disassembled and rebuilt a 73 sportster in the back bed room. Got the engine back in and everything hooked back up except for the mufflers in mid February. Just had to start it. Opened the window and back door and started kicking and cranking the throttle, wouldn't start. Forgot the coil wire. kicked one more time and KA-BOOM, backfire and pop pop pop and smoothed out once the cylinders cleared out. Brought the wife straight up off the couch. Boy was she mad!!! Probably more because I was laughing so hard I could hardly breath because I scared her than the backfire itself. To say the least she appriciates me having a nice shop now.
Not only did I fire up the Sporty in the living room, I did a full bore burn-out in the kitchen with the Shovelhead, found out that there were 4 layers of flooring...LMFAO I think that I still have it on VHS. somewhere..
I assembled my HD(Chopper) in our spare bedroom in 1971. Rode it out the front door(wasn't running) got a few good stares from neighbors. You do what you have to do...

I rebuilt my old panhead in the living room and of course had to test it out. Nobody else was home at the time, but it was pretty obvious because the whole house smelled like exhaust and the drag pipes blew all of the tinsel off the Christmas tree. Now every Christmas we have to bring that up and laugh about it.
