reviving the cases
Got the EVO motor back from the mechanic today all assembled except for heads are off and I'd like to paint the cylinders black and clean up the casing , the cases have a black tinge look to them and I'd like to get them back to the gleaming alluminum look. The bottom end is bolted to the engine stand. Any suggestions or proven methods?

Polish, polish, polish. Then finish with a good wax to keep it shiny.
Some products I use are NevrDull, Semichrome and Blue magic. Lots of guys like Mothers.
In my search for a stronger polish, Sunday I mixed up some home brew polishes (loosely based off partial recipes on the net). Initial tests went well, the coarse polish cut through the oxidation and brought a shine with out much effort. The finer polish I made reduced the scratches. I finished polishing my test piece with Blue magic.
It looks good. I want to get more experience with this stuff before recommending it to others.
