Why do you need permission to meet and ride with others that you have made friends with. Find yourselves a Bar/ Poolhall/Cafe etc.. arrange a meet up and orginize a ride out, call yourselves whatever you want. Always remember you own the Harleys not the other way around.
OK, I am confused. I bought my bike used. What is a HOG and why do I want to join ? I bought the bike to ride it. I have friends on (horrors) hondas, yamahas, etc. and other Harley types. We all get along.
From the day I saw and heard my first Harley I have been loyal. For me it has always been about their product. The organization I belonged to for years was all about motorcycles in general, giving back to the communities with Toy Runs, rally's,and fighting restrictive state and federal laws, which was for all bike riders, most being Harley owners, although it did not matter. So if it is a matter of belonging, join other organizations and be loyal to a brand of motorcycle you truly enjoy.
We're not standing still here....our chapter is disbanded and we are forming our own club with 80+ paid up. The point is that HD is cutting their own economic throat by letter these chapters fold. I ride a lot, 12k+ a year both with friends and solo. Riding buddies is not the issue. HOG bailing out on chapters is the issue.
Ok, I'm getting a freakin headache so I'll stop. Thanks to all who responded.
Adapt, overcome, conquer...
Few people like change, expressly when the new option is not as convenient as what was.
I am a HOG member, but in 3yrs never been to the first meeting, its 65 miles to the dealer and I don't do 6am rides to get there on time.
I do like the 15% discount that our dealer gives, it has saved me a lot more money than what the dues are. The road service is nice to have, but never needed it.
I think there are worse things that could happen in life than losing a charter to one dealer.
If it means that much to U and it seems like it does. I'd find another chapter to ride with.

It's always hard when you come to the sudden and undeniable conclusion that someone (in this case something) is and never was your friend. You are lucky to have riding buddies, enjoy your time with them. Harley is no longer the company they used to be, expecting any loyalty from them is unreasonable. A shame really because once the core consumer is gone they will most likely flounder. And now you know. Hope your headache gets better soon.
