I think the closest "good sized" town is Robbinsville in NC. The Gap is just North of that. I belive the "Dragon" that you are probably talking about is actually in NC, not TN (just South of the border) Have fun!

 

Thanks Brettsterhog, we're trying to figure out a good town close by to stay in, some fun after the ride.

 

Closest larger town is Knoxville. From there head out towards the airport . Most of the Dragon is in NC but the starting point going towards NC is at the overlook above the lake and thats on the Tn side. If you head up this way there are alot of very nice roads in the area. the Dragon is a blast but sometimes there are just to many bikes on it. I also really like Northern Georgia and its right close to that area. You could spend several days just riding around on some of the great roads.

Well Gary, that (a lot of bikes, esp. sportbikes) concerns me a bit...I hear they ride like idiots sometimes, and I would hate to be wiped out by one. It's gonna be a couple of months before we go, so I'm just getting some info for now. Thanks for the input.

Alcoa is a nice town and a great drive to the dragon. I did it pulling a boat and got dizzy. Slow is the key.

 

alway's thought about riding the "dragons tail" until i saw the video of the harley rider missing the turn and going to a bad place. maybe sometime, but not anytime soon.
