Bought my wiley's back in '08. Well after the 1 year warranty I called and explained they broke where your suppose to use the strap. No questions asked they asked for my address and shipped new without me proving proof of purchase. I like my wileys and hoping your's is an isolated incident, I dont wanna replace my Rx sunglasses again.
They sent me the first set of replacement arms without having to do the whole send them in for inspection plus $9 shipping and handling .. and I was pleased. Thing is, they know good and well that these are practically defective to break so easily at the strap hole ..thats probably why they are quick to send out replacements. When she asked and I told her it was at the strap hole she didnt hesitate to have the arms in the mail.
Thing is .when the model that you have runs out of production then they stop making replacement parts apparently and youre just screwed if youve spent the bucks to have prescription lenses put in them. You cant even buy the arms to fix your high dollar RX sunglasses if they are out of warranty.
I looked at 7 Eye and they only offer a 1 year warranty on theirs . And theirs are considerably more expensive. I may actually go back to Wiley X for my next pair, but Ill damn sure not be picking a frame style with the hole for the strap those are junk. No way an $80-$140 pair of shades should fall apart like that in less than 2 years. Hell, my first arm broke in about six months time .
Called Wiley X back just now to see if perhaps the lenses fit another frame….nope.
Service girl seemed to want to insist that the Top Jimmies were discontinued in ’07. LOL I don’t have any idea what difference that would make, but I bought my first pair directly from them in March of ’08 and my frames for prescription lenses in September of ’08 and they had to be ordered from Wiley X. The eye glasses shop I got them from didn’t have them in stock. She was adamant that they were discontinued in ’07 though stating that she had worked there for five years and she knew it to be a fact. Whatever.
She said if they had the replacement arms she would send them to me, but they ran out like 3 days ago. LOL My luck. I have like $350+ tied up in Wiley X Top Jimmies and miss out on getting replacement arms for their defective frames by three days……
I really wish there were more options out there for the motorcycle sunglasses with the foam eye cups. I despise giving Wiley X my business again after the ordeal I’ve had with them.
Her advice was to look on Ebay for a pair to part out…..I’ve already sunk WAY too much money in these piece of **** glasses. Time to give up on these frames and move on whether the high dollar lenses are still in perfect condition or not.
I just want people to know that the Wiley X glasses with the holes in the frames for a strap are JUNK. Don’t waste your money on them!
Had a pair of Wiley's, wasn't impressed. I now wear fishing glasses from wal-mart, berkley is the brand and are only around 20 bucks, polarized lenses and polycarbonate frames.
I don't understand anyone paying for over priced shades.. just because the Name is popular..
I've had maybe 30 pr of sunglasses in my life, I wear while riding, driving and at work..
Some of them I got free at the safety conventions and the rest I've not paid over $10 for any...and still have a dozen or so now.
Yes they are good looking not the cheap-o's and are safety lens glasses.
To put a ton of money in any pair of glasses is beyond me..
No,, I ain't cheap,, I just refuse to pay what some of the big name makers charge for theirs and won't waste money on stupid chit paying a ton of money just for a name on the product....
I purchased them at my local military clothing store as they had both these and the Wiley X glasses (military clothing sells them cheaper than most places). To me these felt more comfortable and sturdier than the wiley types, and I dont care for foam cups.
i got the wileys in my prescription when i first deployed to iraq (sg1). worked great, but i felt that they were too big for my head too. what i did was to take the lenses out, dip the frames in hot water, and then bend them in some. made a huge difference.
I bough a pair of WX Light Adjusting Climate Control series glasses in 2006, in 2008 they stopped darkening. I called WX and they replaced the lenses and gave me a new foam, gasket. Now in 2010, I'm seeing that the same thing is starting to happen - not darkening. I will contact WX again and we'll see what they have to say. I've heard before that Light Adjusting lenses only last for 2 years, but WX assured me that is not true. No matter what anyone says, I'm seeing a pattern here that's concerning me regarding LA lenses...

Oakley, I have been wearing them for about twenty years, started with frogskins. Good quality a little pricey. But nice, Like anything else abuse them and they break. Sometimes, they just break. Take the good with the bad.
An arm broke off my Wily X SG-1 after more than a year. I ordered another set. I super glued the goggle strap attachment to the older set and put the clear lenses in it. I keep it on the bike as an emergency set, night driving and allergy season (I pull the strap tight to keep out pollen).
An arm broke off the newer set after a years use. Super glue to the rescue once again. I glued the long arms on for this pair.
I just ordered a pair of polarized replacement lenses today. For some reason they were very hard to find.
