Default Boots????

I came home after a long day of work and the wife had a gift for me. She had a pair of Ostrich cowboy boots waiting for me. I had commented I liked a pair a saw a guy wearing. My question is, does anyone ride with cowboy boots on. I usually ride with a pair of steel toe boots. If you do ride with the boots, how are the soles for traction when coming to stops and stuff???

Thanks

They can be slippery so wear them around first before wearing them while riding. And when guys say, dude don't wear them they look lame, I say wear what you want!!!!! But I am biased toward cowboy boots, I wear crepe soled ostrich cowboy boots, the crepe is much better than the hard leather sole in my opinion for traction and is easier on my legs and back.

i secretly like cowboy boots, always wanted a pair, but being from the north east it is pretty uncommon in most areas. my family would be like what's up with his boots. it would be like one day you start wearing a cape, rock it if you want to but people are going to stare and i don't need the exposure i'm a private dude... if i ever move to texas or something first thing i'm doing is buying a pair.

but i'm easing the people around me in slowly. i started wearing a modest peterbilt buckle with my belt.

as for traction i would imagine they're quite slippery and a pretty poor choice for a riding boot. but function isn't everything you gotta look cool while doing it.

I wear my Red Wings in bad weather.

In good weather for day rides I wear my Ariat Heritge cowboy boots with "duratread",rubber sole.
Leather can be slippery. Then again, easy enough to change out the leather for rubber at your local boot repair.

I hope you have and use heel/toe shifter so you don't mess up those really nice boots from your wife.

Like qtrracer said break them in first. Even so I would be extra careful if they are leather soled.

I've been wearing cowboy boots for years but for the bike I get boots that have a sole that is not leather. My favorite are a pair of Justin work boots.

When not wearing my Wesco, I wear a Redwing with a rubber-cork compound. Just be carefull with leather soles. Little oil with a water slippery than pig snot.

why worry about traction unless you skid to a stop with your feet, or take off ala Fred Flintstone. JK. I wear wellingtons or frye in the summer and goretex huntin' boots in the fall and winter.

I melted the heel on a pair of cowboy boots riding years ago.

Great advice guys thanks. I was talking to the wife about changing the leather to rubber. There is a boot repair place that has been working on my work boots, I will stop by. I know they may look a little silly, but I don't give a hoot. My first pair. Ive always wanted some and I was really surprised, right out of the blue from the wife... i wonder what she has done... shes got to be up to something.

Ride safe

Thanks again

If they're leather soles, you need to either scuff them up enough for traction or take them to a shoe shop & have half soles & heels (vibram) put on. Not expensive. If you're one of those guys who look good in roach-killers, more power to ya!
