Luckily for you the WG tank is a lot more common than the FXD. Must have seen dozens of WG tanks before I even found 1 for mine. Make sure you get one that fits your year, on mine I could only use a 00-02 tank from a FXD or FXDT. This is the Ebay vendor I got mine from:

+1 I have a 2000 WG and I found some on ebay. You gotta make sure they fit and make sure there are no dents. Good luck.

That's putting a positive "spin" on things! (spelling intended)!

Seriously, you need a back door on your garage, so it can be rolled straight on in!

You definitely have reason to be mad, she should not have touched your bike without asking first. There is a difference between being mad and going off on someone though. Sounds like you handled it pretty well. Be glad she only dented the bike. Could have been alot worse if she had gotten her leg pinned under there. You could have had a dented tank and a G/F with broken bones....If you apologize it should end with "but please ask next time" and she should definitely apologize.

Seriously, if your only reaction was to say "what were you thinking", then there's no need to apologize. Buy her a little bike, spend some time with her teaching her the basics before you make her take the MSF course, and get a new tank on the Bay. Softail tanks of the same year will also fit.
I'd be mad, for sure, but I have myself under control, just like you. And, for sure, I would have asked her too, what she was thinking. But it's not the end of the world.
Just show her the same respect then you would like to get even when you screw up things. The ggod news is: a tank on e-bay can be had at around 150, when in a good shape, and it will take you around an hour to mount it.

Apologize for the yelling, tell her you were thinking about her possibly getting pinned beneath bike. That takes away her getting mad at you and explains initial reaction, good things may follow.

Order custom tins or get custom paint to fix, might as well get it fixed right...

WOW time for a new GF after she pays for a new tank. Sucks man, but it can be fixed. Look on Craigs list-there are always tanks on there around my area.

Tell her it's only a bike & she means more to you than anything you can buy.
