Thanks so much folks for all the good wishes! I took the bike into Shelton's HD today (rode it in) so that the insurance guy can see it there. Turns out that Progressive has a "regional motorcycle specialist" so no adjuster over the weekend. Whatever...
On the comments about getting a specialist to look me over: I never thought that being a cancer survivor would have side benefits. I get chest-pelvis CT scans every 4-6 months. I know the radiologist keeps an eye on my spine because he has noted some arthritis forming in my lumbar region (I read the reports). So, I have 4 years of baseline CT images and go in for my next one in a few weeks. :-)
On the helmet thing: I will always support the freedom to choose. That said, I have been in several little, and 2 major crashes in my life and both times my helmet has saved my life. Here is a pic of the back of my helmet after this incident.
I can't imagine what my head would have looked like with that on it, and I shudder to think what the outcome would have been.
I was apprehensive reading this as well. Damn sure glad you made it through as well as you did. A little skill and a lot of luck never hurt anybody, eh? Take care, get better and we'll see you down the highway.
Had the same thing happen to me two years ago. Got outta the way of the car that stopped in front of me but the back end kicked out and down she went. I ended up in the median with some rash and alot of bruised ego. The cop was a biker too. Had to get it towed in. Made numerous improvements and got her running in about a month. Kept my ripped up jacket as a reminder to pay attention out there.
Wow, this could've ended so much worse in so many ways.Glad you are okay. Almost sounds like you might have been unconcious for a little while, especially based on your description of your helmet. I'm sure your MD checked you out for a concussion. Hope you continue your quick recovery.
glad to hear your ok, and i agree not all cagers are a**holes. i went down in December guy mad a left in front of me, no where to go but into the side of him. Cagers blongcked traffic as i was laying in the street and helped get my bike outta of the street.
