Harley is a prime takeover target (unfortunately). Its not from low motorcycle sales (which didnt help) but from people not making payments on their Harley loans, themmoney for which came from HD itself. KKR is another of those buy it, chop it up and sell off the good parts types, also not good. If it happens, I bet they separate the finance side from the bike side of the house and sell that separately down the road. Regardless of what happens or not, things aint looking to rosy right now for HD.
you ain' never seen "Wall Street", huh? Did'n pay attention ta what Micheal Douglas's character was all about??? The rumor'd "bidder", KKR....could give a rat's azz about HD....would prolly chop it up an sell it off, which,I think.....AMF was about ta do the same thing when the Davidson's and employee's decided ta buy it back, and almost did'n happen for em'....but yer prolly not old nuff ta remember that
This is not something that I'd think the Harley faithful would hope for.
Any outside buyer would do one thing: isolate the core brand and market the schitt out of it. No new ownership group would invest in R&D, market expansion, dealer franchising, etc. They'd promote brand valuation through a simplified marketing message and sell everything around it.
Just wait and see what will be Harley-branded.
Maybe they'll license some Chinese-made KY knock-off and call it "Sin3"
