Default Vance & Hines slip on's 06' street glide

I purchased my 06 street glide with 1800 miles on it. I was told by the dealer that it has a stage 1 kit in it. The bike does have a different air filter as well as vance & hines slash cut slip on's will billett end caps. Just recently the end caps have become pitted as well as the chrome starting chipping off of them. I was thinking of replacing them so I decided to remove the two bottom screws and attempt to remove them. First off I thought both pipes had baffles in them. Only 1 side had a small 3 inch fiberglass type baffle and the other side just had a bent up perferated screen with no baffle. After the removal, i re-installed the slip on's without the baffle. I really liked the look better, so i started the bike and the sound was amazing and quite a bit louder. Once I rode the bike I also noticed a little more of a power increase without the baffles. I was then told by a harley mechanic that I needed to tune the bike and dyno it because i removed the baffle. The bike never came with a vance and hines fuel pak (the previous owner probably kept it), but Im guessing since it already had the pipes and air cleaner, that it was already adjusted for that. Has anyone done what I have done before or know anything about it? The bike seems to be running great, so is the mechanic just trying to get money out of me by telling me that i need it tuned?? I also was reading posts that the bikes ecm adjusts automatically???
