when I wear my 3/4 summer helmet on the freeway I do, around local roads I usually don't and my full face winter helmet is pretty quiet without them. I wear them or ear muffs at work all the time too, after 35 years working in steam plants riding motorcycles and target shooting my hearings taken a beating
I just went for my first ride with ear plugs and I have to say you guys are right. I only went about 60 miles but they made the ride more enjoyable at 70-80 MPH. Thanks for the tip!
Always, most riders just don't realize (until it's too late) just how damaging wind noise is. It happens slowly, so you really don't notice and it is NOT reversible.
I use these http://www.howardleight.com/family/index/11. They are comfortable, helmet or not and reusable. You won't know what your hearing is worth until it's gone.....
www.earinc.com also makes a similar product on the spot. I had a backup set made a few weeks ago & my wife had a set made. 40.00 each & the guy came to my office to make them. http://www.earinc.com/p1-nonelectronic.php for insta-molds.
Plugs make a ton of difference especially without a windshield. I always have mine except when I forget them. I am always sorry when I leave home without them.
I've always worn them. I just put V&H Big Shot Staggereds on and they are MUCH louder than I had anticipated. I started bitchin' about it until someone pulled up next to me at a stop light and asked me what pipes I had because it sounded so good. That's all it took! I'm going on a 4 day trip this weekend and I'll see how I feel afterwards. I've thought about putting in some quieter "quiet baffles" than the ones V&H has.

Always have - if I ever forget them the mechanical mayhem form below has me convinced the motor is about to blow!
Way too harsh without them. And like's been said, you still get the growl.
I was at the stock car racing tonight - first time in many years. I wore ear plugs. Never used to - and I used to go every Sat. night for about 20 years. The hearing loss I have now, is down to that I'm sure, and not my biking over the last 10.
Wear pulgs - you know it makes sense and it makes the ride more of a pleasure.
