Default Buying from another state

Just finished my round Florida road trip (Tampa-Daytona-Key West-Naples-Tampa) and decided my Fatboy is not really built for these sort of trips especially two up so looking to replace it with a late model Street Glide (I think, but also keep looking at Road Kings).

At present my Fatboy is on a custom tag registered in Florida, which I want to retain. If I buy a bike from out of state is there any problem with registering it in Florida so as I can keep my tag? I plan to ride the bike back to Florida after buying not ship it.

Any advice in this area would be most appreciated, also Street Glide v Road King

There should not be a problem. There is usually an extra fee when you transfer any kind of used vehicle title from different state. If you buy a new scooter from another state you should be able to send a request to the Florida State Motor Vehicle Registration to transfer the special plate to the Street Glide.

Will I still be able to ride it home? I know when I brought my Fatboy I had to go to local licencing office where they gave me a new tag, are you saying I will have to to do the same and then when I get back to Florida ask the licencing office there to transfer new scooter to my custom tag?

Default Out of state

Best thing is go online to your DMV site. All states are not the same. For example, here in Nevada you must have a title to register a vehicle, a bill of sale will not work. If you buy an out of state with just a bill of sale and no title you have a very nice lawn ornament. Also, the NV DMV will issue you a temp. 30 day traveling tag so you can legally transport your new vehicle to NV for registration. They don't charge for these. So check with FL DMV and you should be ok.
