Default Buddy has a problem

My buddy (next door neighbor) has a bad problem and I don't know how to help. He's been looking at bikes for a while now and decided to buy (with wife blessing) after renting one last weekend. I told him about a dealer in Beaumont (95 miles from Hou.) who still had some '06 RK's on the floor. He calls them today and can RIDE OUT for $17,500.00. The problem now is the wife wants him to look at Honda or Yamaha (that left a bad taste in my mouth) because they are cheaper. HELLO!!!!!!!! There's a reason for that. Poor guy is in really bad shape right now and it is killin' me to see him like this. They are going to look at the RK Saturday and I'm hoping he'll ride it home. Does anyone have any advice (besides divorce) I could give him to make this dream a reality?

The only thing I can think of right off is telling them that the Harley resale or trade-in value is much higher if you haven't already.

He should tell her that the color matches his outfits better and it does not make him look fat.

It's cheaper to get what you want than to get something else and regret it, then have to go through the process of trading. Besides, tell him to take for a ride on a Harley then a honda, then ask her which one she "likes"

Make sure she goes with and rides on the back of the roadking.

She will fall for the HD the same as the rest of us have...

The Honda's can be nice looking, but they just don't inspire passion.

I think I would keep pushing the Trade in resale value. Also tell him to tell her it is just cool plain and simple to be a Harley Man

Buying a non-HD is not the end of the world, trust me

But the resale value might be a good point.

I told him about the resale and all that. I think I'll tell him to tell her Harley Men can ride all night and all day. Maybe that will make a difference.

Not the end of the world, but if you get a bike you don't like you will never be happy. All too often people buy the "cheaper" bike just to save some cash and then never really enjoy the ride. All the time wishing he was riding a HD. If the "other" brand makes you happy then go for it. But if he is torn between the two, then he really likes then HD and will never be happy with anything less. This is obvious as the HD is much more money but he still is condsidering it. The only reason he is torn is because he really wants it, just hard to justify the extra cash. I know this from experience and he should get the HD and be happy rather then settle for less and regret it.
