My buddy has a 07 springer with about 5,000 miles on it. He took it for a ride the other day turned it off and went to restart it later and N/G. It had a very soft click, no headlight or anything. he thought it was the battery so he bought a new one today, installed it and still the same problem. Any ideas?
Might be a bad starter zapping the battery and sending the juice someplace else. First thing I would check would be all the cable connections from the battery. Ground and hot to starter etc.
Here's a little update.
He went for a ride last Saturday got home and turned it off. Went to take it out again later and nothing! Dealer suggested a battery, put that in and still nothing. Here is what it does, hopefully somebody has an answer:
key on: dash light lite, fuel gauge lite, Vance and Hines fuel pak lite (#1 is shown), idiot lights include low fuel, alarm and engine light. If I turn off the stop button on the handle bars, the V&H fuel pak goes out. Not clicking for any relay and nothing happens when you hit the start button.
key off: every 7-10 seconds, the dash light lites up along with the fuel guage and the V&H fuel pak. This was still going when I left after 10 minutes. He said that this happens when the bike is turned off after he has been ridding it.
It has had the ignition switch replaced in the past by the dealer under warranty.
