It's about the only thing i get from the dealer. I have read some place that the HD filters are 5 micron
and could never find that info on the aftermarket filters.
might be crap but i don't know.

About all I've seen is that Harley oil filters for the twin-cams are, for some reason, rated at 5 microns, and the earlier engine filters rated less (and 5 micron supposedly could cause a problem for evolution and earlier engines by being overly restrictive on oil flow).
K&N's are convenient because of the integral removal nut, and are supposedly of high quality. I do know that K&N is not very forthcoming about the the micron rating for its oil filters.
I haven't heard why it is especially important that the twin-cams have 5 micron Harley oil filters. I suspect it's because Harley sells them...but I don't know that for sure.
What I do wonder about is (though I think I know the answer); is the micron rating of the filter for the twin-cams as important as merely changing the oil at a reasonable and protective interval?

Clicker: Actually, I have even more posts than the OP, and I haven't seen this discussed much. Maybe it was before my time in the forum.

That's not my intent!
I guess every new generation of HDForum users has to learn the same lessons, over and over. I guess I need to remember this when I'm an 'old hand' here. All I know is, that I've gotten some very good advice from the forum.

I run amsoil. 20-50 in the crankcase, 75/140 in the trans and 10/40 in the chaincase. There are many suitable fluids, maybe better than what I run, but you'll have to decide for yourself. Lemme know if you need anything else bro.
