Question Co2 for a flat tire?

Anyone ever tried to air up a tire using those little Co2 cannisters? How many does it take and is it better than a small compressor??

I have often thought I should carry something like these with me, but don't you also need some sort of gunk stuff that you shoot into the tire to stop the leak first? Be cool to find out what other use.

The kit I saw is a plug kit that has the cannisters. Put a temporary plug in and then air up.

It'll take 5 or 6 to air up a tire. The problem is that if you don't get a good plug the first time, you are now out of air and SOL for a second try. Better to carry a small compressor with your plug kit. I carry the Slime powersports compressor. You can find them at most auto parts stores.

One will get you down the road. Two will probably get you to 30lbs or more. I was with a friend in the Glamis dunes and his tire came off the bead on his buggy. Rear tire. We set and used the one co2 cannister I had. It got him back to camp but he told me to bring at least two with me from now on. It rode mushy but that's kind of what you want in the dunes. One used to be enough for our dirt bikes in Baja.
