if you buy it you will be working on it . everything will start coming lose no matter how much lock tight you have on it and if it doesnt it will break bolts . My bud had a custom and i told him to sell it cus i was sick of working on it and picking it up when broken down. If you want something like that get a Big Dog as they are a custom but mass produced and easy for parts and a very reliable.
Just my 2 cents

why would he be willing to dump that for a train ? did he do all the work himself and there's lots of mickey mouse work done behind the scenes ? and he's just trying to get rid of the ongoin money pit before it's too late ?

I personally have seen too many projects look CRAZY GOOD, only to see this little wire just needs a quick fix, oh and it only does this thing sometimes, and that part there is only a $2 fix, I swear... etc etc etc

I would roll with the night train, if anything use the 3k you were going to trade, towards a S&S motor when the times comes , if power was what you were looking for

my dad had the ultima 127 in his softail build.

he put over 20,000 miles on that motor with no problems.

sold it to his buddy in florida who's had it for 4 years now and still no problems.

maintain it and it won't f*ck with you too badly.

if you like it, get it.

then again, for a little more coin you can put a big rear kit on your train and eventually drop a big motor in the rails and you'll have the same bike...

just something to consider.

That bike your looking at is nice looking for sure and I love the 300 rear tire, but the NT you have is nice too and it's a real HD. Customs are nice, but some can be a pain to get parts for or to work on. I say keep your bike and maybe spend a few of thoes buck on some new parts to freshen you bike up some.

Have you looked into insurance for the custom bike? The custom looks cool and the big inch motor would be a blast, but the rigid rules it out in my book. Tough call, you only live once.

That custom bike is extremely limited in what you can do and where you can go whereas you Train is like a Swiss Army knife. Me - I'd keep the Train.

Ultima makes a great motor, I wouldn't be concerned about that. The wiring in these custom builds is usually frail thin wires that may ground out over time. My buddy's that have them get tired of the constant maintenance. steering head bearings constantly needing adjustment, occasional locating pin for the hidden fork stop shearing off, motor mount bolts are always loose (and yes, I know about lock-tight, nylock nuts and lock washers). The NT will be a lot more durable in the long run.

The custom is a neat bike but I sure wouldn't want it as my ONLY bike. Sometimes you just want to go out for a nice afterwork ride without feeling like your on an 8 second bull-ride.
