Working part time on a flexible schedule would be your best bet. The fulltimers generally have to work weekends, special events, 6 days a week, can't get much time off, etc. etc.

Never worked for a Harley dealer, but I know guys that do, and it seems like they're always working while I'm out riding. But that's at a 7 day a week dealer.

I spent some time with the service manager at our local open house. He spends a lot of time at work...But he does get to take a few new rides home to 'evaluate'.
But again, he is a manager.

I totally agree about a-hole owners, I work in parts at a highline car dealership and we are lucky that our owner is out spending his millions and cruising in his Ferrari so we rarely have to deal with him. This job would be a lot more enjoyable if I worked less hours, on a short week I work 50hrs. a week and on a long week 57hrs.
Also salesmen rarely last too long, if I had a dollar for every salesman I have seen come and go in the last 5 years I have been here I could buy this dealership.

James the other thing i don't know how old you are but my time is valuable to me as i have a full time job and family and friends and i love to ride alot. I was also looking at a part time job at one of the dealers and then realized that

A) i would be low man so i would get stuck with the weekends cause every one else would be out riding
B) it looks fun until you make it a job then it is just that a job.

So i said no and will keep my free time got to figure that in there.

Now if i was retired and all then i would rather be a part time sales associate at a Harley dealer than a walmart greeter.

Pretty much what I've been wrestling with. I just turned 34 Saturday. I get alittle restless sometimes but I'm trying to get more tools aquired and have been doing some tinkering in my shop at home. I've been thinking about doing a little painting in my shop at home too. I'm not used to being low man on the pole anymore and don't want to get pissed any burn any bridges. I have a real good relationship with the dealership currently and I'd like to keep it that way. I still don't know WTF I'm going to do.

You must have some nice properties! 34 and have time on your hands. Good for you! I have found that mixing pleasure with work turns what was once pleasure into work.
