i was wondering about the motorcycle laws in florida. i plan to go to thunder on the beach, but people are telling me cops will pull you over for anything down there. they say they have a ape hanger law. my bike has 16 inch apes and i dont really wanna go if im gonna get a ticket. anyone know for sure?
Section 316.2095 says (in pertinent part) (that's lawyer speak):
(2) No person shall operate any motocycle with handlebars or with hadgrips that are higher than the top of the shoulders of the person operating the motocycle while properly seated upon the motorcycle.
That being said, I've seen many, many much higher.

Theres several threads about all of the states laws here, I would search for them. Most have a link to a website that list everything you/we need to know.
As of lately a vertical tag can get you a nice fine.
Negative, a vertical tag is legal in Florida. Ape hangers above the shoulders will get you busted. If you go without a helmet you must have proof of personal medical coverage on your person and must be over 21.

Since October 2008 vertical license plate were illegal in the State of Florida. The first fine to violate the law was a whopping $1000…
Abate of Florida reports that governor Charlie Crist signed an amended bill restoring the legality of the use of a vertical tag for motorcycles and scooters if it cannot be adjusted or flipped up to conceal the plate numbers. It seems that the new law already took effect on July 1st.
I never heard about the repeal. A friend of mine paid $1,500 to have her custom chopper modified to comply with law. Whata rip!

I almost got busted for that on my sport bike in Callahan one night but because I was from out of state they didn't do anything to me.
