Default Full Face Helmet Recommendation?

Well, I have been reading and hearing of too many accidents with cagers and figure it is time to breakdown and keep the old brain a little more secure than my do rag and vigilant riding. I have done some research but found there are more helmet choices out there than I care to deal with. What I am looking for is a light-weight, full face, hopefully black cherry (wishing), ear phones (ipod ear plugs) helmet. I have read reviews and came across the HJC AC-12 Carbon. Although not black cherry, it is pretty cool lookin. I can pick it up online for under $300 which seems to be a good deal but what is price compared to your brain.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or recommendations would be appreciated.

I just got that very helmet yesterday, probably from the same source as you, based on the price. Got it in 24 hours (but it came out of San Diego and I'm in L.A.). On the upside, you won't have to pay any sales tax!

First impressions are excellent. Not as plush as a top-of-the-line Shoei or Arai, but not as expensive, either, and a heck of a lot lighter. Vents reasonably well, and MUCH quieter than either the Shoei or Arai (I've had them both). I would had ridden further to fully check it out, but it's been over 100 degrees here yesterday and today, so it will have to wait a bit.

You have to try them on.
They are all shaped differently inside and sizing isn't even close brand to brand.

Find a store with a large selection and try a bunch on.
Remember it should be snug, and will be a bit tight when brand new.

I really like my Shoei RF1000. I recently broke a part and they shipped me all related parts just to be sure no charge and no questions asked.

I called them back 2 days later with parts in hand because I was having trouble adjusting something. When I got off the phone all was good, AND they are sending me out some new dual pane shield that is supposed to have superior anti-fog capabilities again no charge. When I asked why (dumb question I know) the response was, we want you to be fully satisfied with your purchase and think this may make it better.

Service like this, I'm sold for my future helmets. Well unless that Schuberth one ever comes to the US.

Take this for what it's worth...

The absolute best full face motorcycle helmet is the Simpson Outlaw.
It's incredibly light, but it's most impressive feature is it's aerodynamics
You can turn your head at 90 mph, and not even know you are wearing a helmet. It doesn't lift, pull, wobble, buffet or cause any wind drag to stiffen your neck.
It's extremely quiet and very comfortable.

I don't see any air vents on that Simpson.

That and the flat black leads me to think it could get awful hot!!!

All of the above may be true, and it's a great-looking helmet, too. But with only a chin vent and no other venting (according to the Web site), it may well be much too hot a helmet for anyone who rides mostly in the South or Southwest parts of the country, where the temps regularly climb over 100 degrees. That's why there is really no single "absolute best" for everyone, though I do admire your choice.

Here's another vote for the Shoei RF-1000. Vents very well and can be had on line in solid colors for about $365. Mine is flat black and is not hotter than my previous Shoei which was light silver metallic.

Shoei RF 9000 is the best I have ever had for comfort and areodynamics.
Very little wind noise
