Hey Dyna Bead users
My wife went to the local indy shop today and picked up some dyna beads for me . The service guy told her they don't work well with air.He said nitrogen is the only way they will work. I'm thinking this ain't so. I assumed most of the good reports I've read here on dyna beads were with air used in tires.............Alll opinions appreated...........Thanks
They work with air or nitrogen. The problem comes from moisture. Compressed air carries a lot of moisture whereas nitrogen is more stable.
A little moisture causes the beads to clump together negating their effectiveness. So far no problems here and I'm using regular air.

Well I don't run dyna beads but I can garauntee you that he is full of BS!! The concept of dyna beads is that they dynamically balance a tire and rim by finding the opposite moment of an imbalance. Unless your air is thick and dense enough to stop the beads from moving around in the tire there should be no difference. The dyna bead website says Nitrogen is an "ideal" environment for the beads but doesn't say why other than Nitrogen doesn't have same moisture level when purged blah blah blah.

A good example of why I hate to use a gas station compressor to fill my tires. I have seen some horrible amounts of moisture coming out of the hoses. I will only use my compressor or a reliable shops unless it's an emergency.

Besides the moisture factor, nitrogen is also considered "ideal" because it doesn't expand/contract with temperature changes as regular air does. Provided you check your tire pressures periodically, however, regular air is just fine for DynaBeads.
