You only saved $168? Maybe you should have made a larger order, or shopped around a bit more...

There is no set price, only an MSRP which is SUGGESTED price. You go into a dealer, and they know right off you want to buy now. They know as well as anyone that there are better deals to be had online, even when you have to pay additional shipping on the order.

ours give %15 hog, so if I spent $1000 I'd save $150.

still they can be beat on some things.

Greed is one. Overhead another.

I know with the way things are economically, we're all looking for the best deal out there. At some point though you have to realize that the dealers will begin to go away if we don't purchase from them. Then what?

I'm sure in the past few years a lot of dealers have closed their doors because they just can't compete with 'online' sales, just like record stores can't compete with itunes, and music download sites.

I can't imagine what it costs on the backend to own a dealership. I'm sure it's not cheap.

The online dealers make money in volume where the ones who don't sell at a discounted price hope to make up for that with retail prices. Business is about making money, but there are multiple philosophies on how to do this. My local dealer won't give a discount either. I tell them I can get it 20% off online or at another dealer nearby as I can and they just watch me walk me walk away. Just remember what PT Barnum said.
