Default Tire Plug

I just wanted to pass on my experience with a good product to everyone.

Went on a four day 1300 mile trip this Memorial day weekend and at the end of day one I picked up a nail in the back tire of my Ultra. I'm about 20 miles from the motel and felt the bike handling like crap because of low tire pressure so I stop and aired it back up.

Once at the Motel I checked the tire and found the nail. I had a "rope" style repair kit as well as a small air pump but another biker staying at the motel came over and told me that he had a better kit and had used it before. This kit has a rubber mushroom type plug.

I tried his kit and it worked like a charm.

Since I was in rural Oklahoma and traveling through the back roads of Arkasas on Memorial day weekend there wasn't exactly a whole lot of places to get a new tire, especially for an 09 Touring bike.

Well since the plug held up the first day just fine I continued on with the trip. 900 miles later the plug is still holding fine, thats riding two-up with luggage.

I am a believer in the kit, worked for me.

It's the pocket plugger kit.

Just thought I would pass on something that worked and saved my trip.

glad it worked out for you - this is one reason i'd consider getting rid of the spoked rims on my street bob (tubeless tires!)

I saw that website also has a tire pressure monitoring system - wonder how well that works, sure would be a nice feature to have

Being able to quickly repair a flat such as you had is the reason I'm changing wheels on my Heritage when I need new tires.

I'll have one of those 'mushroom plug' kits when I do.

Of course the plugs work just fine.Been using them for many years. Can't begin to say how many tires have been worn out with plugs in them. For the life of me cannot understand why so many are afraid of tire plugs.I know of guys that eagerly await these skiddish riders to discard these plugged tires for their own machines.

Yup, I always carry a plug kit with me. Haven't had the need to use it yet on my bike but have plugged many holes on my Yamaha Grizzly.

I use the old "rope" style or "gummy" worms. I've heard of more than a couple of mushroom plugs that have been sheared off by the steel belts in the tire.

Thanks for the info, I'll be checking into getting one of these kits.

On a side note:
A few weeks ago I was on a ride with my dad and he got a flat front tire (tube, spoke rims) from riding on a gravel road and I guess a sharp rock punctured the tube but there was no hole in the tire itself. The tire was only put on a few months ago. Well we got it inflated and rode to a local indy shop to get it fixed. This indy shop would not fix it they said he needed a new front tire. They said due to insurance reasons they do not plug or repair any tires. Needless to say he just bought a new tube elsewhere. Did any of you ever hear of this before or was the shop just trying to sell a tire + $70 labor?

I would suggest getting yourself a Slime Powersport compressor or something similar. If your first plug doesn't hold, you'll be out of CO2 for a second try?

Nope, several come in the kit.
