Power adjust full down at low speeds, power up a little for rain and high speed. Always look over.
(Just couldn't resist...)

After having multiple bikes with windshields over the years I've concluded that getting a taller windshield that I look through provides the best wind protection for me. I can still look over the shield if needed when it rains though, just have to sit completely upright with no slouching.

I've never had one but I'd rather look over it. I'd think it'd still block the win, without looking through it.

Wow what an old thread. But just for the record. This is actually where the "Ideal Hight" is for a shield. Just ask those safety guys. The reason is: You simply have to nod your head forward to look through the shield. And simply have to nod your head back to look over the shield.

I used some of that "headlight restore" stuff on a friends shield. He had rubbed it up against something. It worked fairly well. Probably could have totally fixed it if we got a little more aggressive with sanding and all. But he didn't want to put forth the effort.

That is my preference!

1) Over

2) yes, a shorter windshield can provide the required protection; my 7" polycarb recurve works great for me (5'11")

3) cutting the shield works fine if it's a HD shield (Lexan) or other polycarbonate shield. Don't try cutting down an acrylic shield, DAMHIK

Personal preference. I prefer to look THROUGH mine. See if you can try 2 different heights, just to compare.

Yes, it is personal preference. I find that dust, bugs, rain, the setting sun and other factors make looking throught the shield more of a challenge than I am comfortable with.
What I did was to take some 1/8" strips of masking tape and apply it to my factory 12" clear windshield at various heights and went for a ride. Before I did this, I guessed at a 9" and I guessed wrong; it was too tall and if I slouched the line was right in the middle of my vision. took it off for a 4" SG shield which was great for looking over but the buffeting was bad. the 7" recurve is perfect for my needs and height.

We are talking motorcycles, not wannabe spaceships here.

I have a 3 inch taller one on my Ultra=15.1/2 inches tall from the chrome strip on the front of the fairing.

I look throu mine and it seems to work just fine. We ride in the rain 1,000s of miles a year and I don't have any trouble seeing the road[8D] I guess I will be the only person to say that looking throu the windsheild is just fine [sm=exactly.gif]

Please don't do what all of us do, do what is best for you[8D]
No, you're not the only one. I look THROUGH my shield. Birds and rocks and gravel don't care about air currents, they will go right over the top and hit ya in the face. As far as rain goes, I can sit up and see over it but that's no big thing because I don't live in the rain forest. Do any of you drive your truck with your head sticking out the window because you don't want to look through the windshield?
