Default need help ASAP

i just pulled my cam cover to look at the tensioners. new to me bike. when looking at the cam support plate with everything still intact, there are two tensioners. on the left side (looking straight at bike) there is the outer tensioner. on the right there is a guide or tensioner that is plastic and clips into the support plate. that one was broke in a buch of smaller pieces. its black. is this a replaceable part from HD? i looked in my service book and see the piece, but no referance to it. whats the danger of running for a few days without it. the outer tensioner shoe is worn about 20%. please anyone have any thoughts on this piece?

What made you take the cover off? That's a fairly big job. Did you hear a bad noise. How many miles on the engine.
You better have this fixed before you run the thing. You could tear some internal things up bad.

I've 38K on my 05 88 and the shoes have not yet been checked. Scares the crap out of me.

On the touring bikes you got to take the right floor board and exaust off to get the cover off.

Your pictures are blurry, but to me it looks like the inner shoe has fragged. How many miles are on the thing?

The thing that has blown apart in there is not actually the tensioner. It is the black plastic chain guide.

Yes it needs to be replaced.

If you PM me, I think I still have my old one from before I did the gear drive; it's yours if you give me an address to post it to.
