well you are the only one to decide if the $ versus the upgrades is worth it.....if you have bags of cash WTF treat yourself...
but considering you ride an average of only 2000 miles a year...(that is if you bought the 02 new)...i'd say keep the money...buy your bride a honkin diamond ring or sumptin..

+1 I own my 01 eg outright. On a personal note never had any problems with it. It still runs strong and long. Yes there are few thing about the newer yrs I like but....do I really want to make monthly payments again? For me not worth it. JMHO and I'm sure others will make a pitch about trading in but in the long run as was said it's all up to you. Only one that knows your personal $$$ situation is you.
I had the same thoughts for my 02 Wide Glide and soon learned that you will never get a better motor other than an EVO, I kept mine and now have 3 hogs in the stable. I take the wide glide once in a while just to tune up my buddy's.
Actually I'm hoping the wife will one day move up from her Sporty to the WG. Just ordered an Easy Pull just in case.
It's all up to you man. If you love your bike and it does what you want and needs it to do then maybe save the cash and keep your ride. I know I like to get new rides too, but I just keep holding on to my XL50 and making her better each time since I just love that bike.
I ride about 4,000 miles a year but now getting ready to retire and hoping to get alot more miles in the saddle. Love the bike just wondering is it a watse to dump money in it rather than for a 09. I did not think the ride was that much better on the 09 but thought about how it might be more dependable

If you think about it, what upgrades does a new RK really have?
It's still a pushrod air cooled V twin.
It has a bit more displacement and maybe a bit more torque but a 95" kit in your 88TC would cover that and more.
Do you really need a 6 speed?
Yes, the frame has been improved but their are ways too stiffen your 2002 frame if you really wanted to.
The new engine mount system has helped with the idle shake, but the velva ride front mount I put on my bike does a good job too and is holding up well.
Wider rear tire? really just a matter of personal taste. No real advantage.
Is a 6 gallon tank that big a deal? Personally, I like the looks of the smaller tank better.
In the end it's your cash, but I don't see the need to get a new one especially if your just getting the same model.
Another important consideration is, at a minimum, you'll have to probably change the exhaust to get rid of the cat converter, richen up the fuel map, and get a new air cleaner to cool the motor and get it running better. Putting that money into upgrading your 88 would probably get you more bang for your buck.
What about the seat? Handlebars?
