Just got back from Big bear, CA. It was the 8th annual ride the mountain rally. Perfect riding weather up there and lots of people out enjoying the mountain. Me and a buddy took a look at google maps, since we were both unfamiliar with the area, and decided on what looked like would be a cool ride home. It all started good... turns out there was two highway 173's, the one we picked turned to dirt about 5 miles from Hesperia CA. My buddy decided this would be much faster if we continued on through this mountain in dirt for 5 miles instead of back tracking 1 or 2 hours. We did, and I don't suggest this to anyone, but it was fun until my buddy started around a turn and some dude is firing his pistol in our direction. No **** this guy is standing on the road across a valley about 100 yards or so when he makes the turn he see's and hears the bullet hit the dirt right in front of him. Once we got the guys attention he stopped shooting. We get passed this guy and start heading down hill and my buddy turns the key off to keep the bike cool. 1 mile after he shut the bike off he realized the key fell out. Took a little walking but we found it back up where dude was shooting at us. I was happy to see pavement a few miles later. Anyone else ever do some off roading like this?
It was a good day even when things didn't go right. I just feel fortunate to have the oppurtunity to be out riding with good friends.
I was there with a couple of buddies. IMO the event was kind of weak... too many trinket vendors (t-shirts, jewelry, etc.) and not enough bike parts. However, the ride up and back was spectacular, and the bike show was good for ideas. I'm not a fan of SOA, so the fact that several of the show stars were there meant nothing to me. As for the offroading... nope (and hope I never do).
What did you think of the Scarface bike that won Best of Show?
Would liked to have seen the SoA crew. Did they ride in like I heard they were going to do?
Nope, they just walked in with a couple of deputy sheriff escorts. They did go by Chad's later while I was there, and did a couple of burnouts as they rode by.

too bad - riding in would have been cool. some friends went to Chads and couldn't get in it was so crowded. maybe that's why they couldn't get a drink there.

yeah I like the show too. like the bikes even with all the on-line criticism they took. people didn't understand they were patterned after NorCal HA bikes.
