As for the hammer, if somebody were to pull up on a bike and tag me with a hammer. That bike would be under my truck in about 1 second flat.

anyone still carry the traffic hammer? (if so - you are awesome)
With the stress people have on them nowadays, and someone throwing a hammer at them, a potentially deadly object, and they may not even know that they cut you off or P/Od you, they may jerk the wheel and take out another innocent rider, carload of kids, etc.

Do you want to encourage road rage against a vehicle that may outweigh you by 400%, and have you outnumbered safety-wise by infinity. Let us know your real name, so we can keep a check in the obituaries. Elmer might just shote your ****.

It wasn't the question that got you hammered. It was the juvenile attitude there at the end.

There is a lady here in Germany that built a custom bike, from a Dragstar, that is really nice. She has a mount for a "tire knocker" for truck mounted on it too. Looks nice, and think she would use it if she had to. The whole thing with the tire knocker or chain would be to dismount then use it to prevent getting run over. I always carried some ball bearings in surgical tubing for tail gaters in my younger days, or my favorite is baby oil in a little bottle. Nothing now though, just ignore them, or stop and take it from there. Not a bad *** but am a firm believer that a person in ride gear can out last someone that is not even if they are not the best fighter. JMHO.

One of the most honest answers so far (lol). I used to know guys that carried small nuts and bolts in their windshield bags for the same purpose. Things were different in the 70's so talking about it here won't get too far. I used to get refused at motels because I was riding a Harley and had more than one bad traffic stop involving numerous non biker friendly LEO's. That's saying a lot from a retired LEO (lol). I was a biker way before I was a COP.

The use of a ball peen hammer probably pre-dates the Hells Angles MC. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the HAMC started up in SoCal back in 1948. I think they started from a splinter group that broke away from the "Pissed off Bastards" (great name eh?).

The earliest story I've heard of the use of a ball peen hammer to do body work on a cager that was trying to run a motorcycle off the road, was also from SoCal - but was dated to around 1946 or so (soon after being released from the service after WW2).

That said, I don't believe this is a smart move these days. Even getting into a raw jawing contest with a cager can really turn out badly.

A few years ago a guy on a bike got into it with a guy in a cage at a light. The biker told the cager to pull into a parking lot.. when the biker did that the cager ran him over in his truck. Actually I think he was pinned to a tree by the truck front bumper.

The biker was paralyzed. The cager was an illegal... and had no insurance.. and basically got deported back to Mexico.. and is probably back in the states by now.

This is not a situation where the biker is likely to come out on top.

I did hear a good story about a biker following a guy that had tried to run him off the road into the guys driveway.. where after the biker jumped off his bike with a hatchet ( ! ) - and then proceeded to chop holes in the guys fender while the cager huddled inside his car.

These days though, the cager would probably have a gun... this was Cali after all.
