I was riding home tonight, cruising about 70 on a rural divided four lane, enjoying the "cooler" night time air. Hardly any traffic at all. I crested a hill and saw a car at the bottom of the hill pull off on the shoulder. Didn't look like anything was wrong so I moved left and kept on the throttle.
I got home, put the bike in the garage, and a moment later, heard my mother-in-law pull in my driveway to drop off my son. Turns out they were the ones off on the shoulder. I'm not sure why I didn't recognize her car but, as it turns out, they clipped one of several deer that were crossing the highway. No damage to her car at all. If I had been running 15 seconds faster... things could have been very sketchy.
I look at like they were running "divine intervention" for me. Can't wait for deer season.
friend of mine just hit a deer with his bike last week on the way to work. He was very lucky.. no injuries to himself.. the bike need a few new parts though.
All the more reason to add those passing lamps on the front of the bike and then rig them to work with both the low and high beam. I know this set up has warned me on many occasion when I catch the reflections off their eyes that I might not have otherwise seen just running the low or high beam.
