I've been following this story as it is right down the road from me since I live in Harrisburg. This is very sad. prayers to the family and I hope the girl who is in the hospital recovers well.
would love to know what really happen . find it hard to believe that 3 bikes would hit 3 different sides of the van. lost a good friend who rear ended a car making a left turn a few weeks ago.sometimes you can learn from others mistakes . prayers go out to the families.
seems to be that things aren't clear cut which is why information is not coming out. some of these investigators are rally good, and some are specialists in motorcycle accidents.
read an article where it came out that the car hit the bike when for a long time the accident was blamed on the bike. the biker was killed and so couldn't tell his side.

Like you, I keep checking for updates on how this may have
come about, it's one of the strangest fatal crashes I've ever
come across. You can learn a lot if you can get some good
answers. If you have Google street view, here are the Lat.
and Lon, just copy and insert in the address bar. It happened
right in front of the only house you see.

The accident investigation team from the DA's office has been engaged to do an accident reconstruction. Could take weeks they are saying. The van driver is listed in fair condition but no word yet on his statement. The lone survivor lost her mom, step dad and fiance in this accident. Fiance did a tour in Iraq as a Marine. I cant even begin to imagine what she is going to have to deal with when she wakes up.
How could a person with his driving record and history get a license to drive a taxi? Bad enough that he would be driving himself but giving him license to carry passengers would be criminal. I presume that anyone driving a public transportation type vehicle would require a permit/license of some kind.
Ok so a passenger said he was driving erratically at speed of 90-100mph.
3 bikes proceeding at 55-60mph in staggered formation spaced appropriately. Van driver crosses yellow line at 90 and strikes bike 1 head on at a combined impact of 145mph. Impact spins van to the right when bike 2 contacts left side at 60mph which added energy spins van 360 degrees and bike #3 contacts left side which counteracts the spin and van comes to a rest. Now facing the opposite direction it was traveling.
This all would take under 6 seconds. The amounts of energy and blunt force trauma transferred to the riders would be tremendous. There was enough energy from the motorcycles hitting the van to completely stop it in it's tracks and turn it around facing the way it came from.
The van driver needs to go to prison for a very long time.

change of message... to drive a livery veh./taxi he would need atleast a class c cdl and a med. card, you cant drive cdl with diabetes.at least not advanced diabetes.. why dont they spend a little less attention to what normal people are doing on the road..speeding,safty equip..and more attention to who they let on the road
So what have we all learned from this? To keep a wary eye out for people with diabetes with a conscious disregard to maintain their medical condition? THAT should be easy. Or I could just keep on riding the exact same way I have been for the last 40 years before I even heard about this crash or the gajillion others that came before it. We can only do so much to keep ourselves safe. The fact we have to worry about sub humans like this taxi driver just make things that much harder. Keep a safe distance, ride sober and always remember you are invisible. Other than that, we are in God's hands.
